Survival Tips for Peak

SurvivalCo-opPeak

Surviving Peak

We have all likely heard of the latest hit co-op game, Peak developed by Landfall and Aggro Crab, or as they like to call their combo, "Landcrab". If you are unfamiliar, here is a brief explainer of the game straight from the dev team.

PEAK is a co-op climbing game where the slightest mistake can spell your doom. Either solo or as a group of lost nature scouts, your only hope of rescue from a mysterious island is to scale the mountain at its center. Do you have what it takes to reach the PEAK?

Naturally, I traveled to Steam to learn more about the newest survival co-op and spoke with a couple of players. They were able to share a bit of knowledge and tips with me for both solo and co-op play. I'm now passing these tips onto any other newcomers!

Tips

Solo Gameplay Tips

  1. Healing items in solo are somewhat situational. If you fall, you either die, or are too weak to go on. Don't waste item slots or weigh yourself down with excessive heal items. Try not to fall, and play it safe! This can apply to co-op as well for assist items like the flare and rope. Play well and there will be no reason to heal or use assist items.

  2. Stamina and energy are the most important stats in the game. Even tools can be optional if you have maintained a good stamina bar.

  3. The most important items are the ones that provide energy or energy boosts, like food and lollipops (wildcards). Try to keep your food bar clean, and the energy bar full.

  1. Using a lunge when nearing your last bit of regenerative stamina doesn't reduce your existing stamina, making that extra bit of distance more achievable.

Co-op Gameplay Tips

  1. Don't climb too high above your team, otherwise the scoutmaster will spawn and chase you til your death!

  2. Cook every bit of food you find when playing with a team. Berries, honeycomb, cookies, plane food... everything.

  3. Save good cooked food for the end. The earlier levels will have natural foods that grow all over the place.

  4. DO NOT OVER COMMIT when climbing. It takes very little stamina to climb down, so if you are unsure of a climb halfway up, just play it safe. Go back down if possible.

  5. Save the chain launchers for Kiln, the final level. There are some very hard climbs, even with lollipops, but some climbs are just too hard. Try using the launchers when you encounter these problems. The chain launcher only takes one item slot, but can be used multiple times to skip climbs that would typically take 2 items each to clear.

  6. If someone falls to their death, do not climb down to revive them. It uses food and med supplies, and generally takes a long time. Try to only revive at the upper statues, unless your teammate has only fallen about 30 - 40 meters.

  7. In the snow areas the large leaf trees provide perfect shelter. Sometimes hiding behind rock faces doesn't work, so run to one of these trees and use their leaves like a tent or umbrella for protection.

  8. Break open beehives by throwing objects at it, like coconuts. Beehives provide honeycombs. You get 4 pieces, and each provide more boost than a marshmallow.

Starting Your Experience

It may not be much, but it's for sure a start to your experience. I'm excited to see what future updates the studios will bring for this game.

You can download it here on Steam for around $8 USD.

Grab a friend or two, try it out, and let me know what you think!
